Why This Chiropractor Doesn’t Take Insurance | Rise

Why We Don’t Take Insurance
You checked before you booked. Most people do. You found us, read enough to be interested, got to the part about insurance, and closed the tab.
That is a reasonable thing to do, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
We have insurance too, and we wish we could use it
Here is the part we would rather say out loud than bury on a pricing page. We are adults with medical insurance, and we wish we could use it. Nobody here thinks paying out of pocket for healthcare is fun.
But what we actually do here does not fit what insurance pays for. A first visit starts with your history, and we go back twenty years. The injury from college you stopped mentioning. What your job asks your body to do all day. What you want to be doing and cannot. Then the exam. Then we sit down and put those two things next to each other before anyone touches you.
To make that fit inside what gets reimbursed, we would have to shorten it until it did. That is the actual trade, and we made our choice about it.
What we hand you instead
We provide superbills. A superbill is a glorified health receipt with all the billing codes on it, and you submit it to your insurance company yourself. If any part of it is something they would reimburse, they reimburse you directly rather than paying the office. We can put one together at any visit. You just need to tell us ahead of time.
We also take HSA and FSA cards, which for most people ends up being the more useful of the two.
Why we build packages instead of quoting you a visit count
This is also why we sell packages. Not as a discount, and not to lock anyone into anything. Once we know what kind of care you need and roughly how much of it, we can spread the payment out and bring down what each visit costs you.
The order of those two things matters. We work out the plan first, then work out the most affordable way to get you through it. Not the reverse.
What the hour is actually paying for
The thing nobody puts a price on is the thinking.
Somebody came in recently for tight hips. Training had picked up, nothing hurt, everything just felt tight. When she laid down on the table her right shoulder was rolled forward and pulled up toward her ear. Three deep breaths in and out did not drop it, which ruled out her just holding it funny. There was a trigger point in the trap that was sore the second it was found, and she had no idea it was there. She had not noticed soreness up there and she had not been tracking her headaches either. Nobody had asked her.
That is not a hip visit anymore.
Nobody finds that on the way through, because on the way through nobody is looking for it. The complaint gets treated and the person walks out with the thing that caused it still in place.
The same pattern shows up with knees. Someone comes in certain the knee is the problem, and the knee itself checks out unremarkable. Work down through the calf and the hamstring, follow it, and it traces back to how the pelvis is sitting.
Tight is usually the last thing you notice and rarely the thing causing it. You lose motion somewhere, the muscles attached to that joint pull tighter, and the tightness is what finally gets your attention.
Fewer visits, deeper work
The math most people run on chiropractic is per visit. Ours is per outcome.
We would rather see you eight times and get somewhere than see you thirty-six times and manage you. That is not a slogan, it is the reason the visit is as long as it is, and it is the reason the price is what it is. The visit is long because the thinking is long, and thinking costs more per visit and less by the time you are done with us.
If you are still weighing it, that is fine.
The question we would ask is not whether it is covered. It is what you have already spent on the things that were covered, and where that got you.
